What are passkeys?

We now support Fast Identity Online (FIDO) passkeys as a two-factor authentication method. Passkeys allow you to enjoy password-free login without the need for verification codes while being the most secure option to protect your account.

Create a passkey

Please note that passkey verification methods may vary depending on the platform or service you are using. The passkey can be added from your phone's biometrics such as Fingerprint Unlock or Face ID, a USB security key, or from another device (for example, another phone). Follow the instructions provided during the process.

1. Before you create a passkey, make sure you at least have:

  • A mobile device with iOS 16.0.0+ or Android 14.0+, or

  • A USB security key that supports the FIDO2 protocol

  • Note:

    • iOS: Requires iOS 16.0+ and the system Passwords app. Update iOS or reinstall the app if needed. (The standalone Passwords app requires iOS 18+.) Passkeys can sync across devices using the same Apple ID.

    • Android: Passkeys depend on Google services, so your device must be able to access Google.

2. Open the OKX app, go to menu, and select Account settings > Security > Passkeys

3. Select Passkeys and complete the security verification

4. If you want to create your passkey with your current device, select Continue and complete the biometric authentication/PIN code on your device

Select Continue to create a passkey with your current device

7. If you want to create your passkey on a different device, select Other Options

  • Select iPhone, iPad, or Android device

Select iPhone, iPad, or Android device to create a passkey with other mobile devices

    • Use the other device to scan the QR code and complete the authentication

  • Select Security key

Select Security key to create a passkey with your external security key

    • Insert your security key and follow the instructions to create your passkey

Verify with passkey

Here's how you can verify your passkey once you have enabled the feature:

Verify with your current device

  1. You'll be prompted to use passkey for verification

If you enable passkey, you'll be prompted by using passkey to use it for verification

Verify with another device

  1. You'll be prompted to use passkey to sign in and select Other Sign In Options

Select other sign in options to use another device to verify your passkey

  2. Select iPhone, iPad, or Android device and select Continue to get a QR code

  3. Use your other device to scan the QR code

Note: for the best experience, please use the latest version of Chrome or Safari.

Rename passkey

You can go to menu > Account settings > Security > Passkeys, click the Passkey you want to rename, then click the "rename" button to help you identify the passkey easily.

Remove passkey

As a security precaution, if you remove a passkey without using another passkey to verify it may trigger a 24-hour restriction on withdrawals. If your account already has 10 passkeys, you'll need to remove one before adding a new one.

To remove a passkey:

  1. Go to the Menu > Account settings > Security > Passkeys

  2. Select the passkey you want to delete

  3. Complete the verification process to confirm the removal

Note:

  1. If additional verification is required, the review process may take up to 24 hours. You'll be notified once it's complete

  2. If you change phones or switch your Apple ID, your existing passkey may stop working and require a removal.
